Pink Strawberry Cake Pops

I had the pleasure of creating these adorable strawberry shaped cake pops for a little girl's 1st birthday party!

The pops are made of red velvet cake mixed with cream cheese frosting and dipped in vanilla candy coating.

Wanna know how to make them?  It's simple!  Just takes time.

I simply shaped the cake mixture into pyramid shapes, let them chill, then dipped them in the candy coating and attached the sugar pearls while the coating was still wet {you have to work super fast... food safe tweezers come in handy!}

Lastly, color your gum paste to the desired green color and roll out about 1/16 inch thickness.  Cut out the leaves with a small sized fondant cutter (or cookie cutter), roll out a little ball for the stem and attach with a drop of water.  Let gum paste harden slightly then attach to the pops with a dab of melted candy melt.  Brush with sparkly edible glitter!

I am always so pleased and so happy when my customers love their pops.  It takes a lot of precious time and love to make these!

here is a picture my customer sent to me... love the labels she made for her daughter's birthday party!

Cowgirl Cake Pops

As some of you may know, I recently opened an Etsy shop!

Appropriately named The Gluten Free Wife, I sell gluten free cake pops, sugar cookies, cake balls, focaccia bread, and {non-edible} paper buntings!

And I had my first two sales this past week!

These cute lil pops were for a four year old's birthday party.  The theme: Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story!  How cute!

I made 2 dozen pops: 12 cowprint, 6 yellow, and 6 red.  And with the classic flavors of Chocolate Fudge and Vanilla Funfetti.

They were super fun to make... and look so cute!

A big thank you to my customers!  You were a pleasure to work with!  :)

Eagle Birthday Cake

My largest cake order yet: two layer sheet cake for a Pensacola principal's surprise birthday party!

My customer wanted an edible, 3D bald eagle to grace the cake.  She said that bald eagles hold a lot of spiritual meaning in addition to it being the school's mascot.  She also wanted it to look like Alaska with the eagle perched on top of an iceberg (with all that gorgeous blue color!)
So I sculpted an eagle out of rice krispies and covered it in gum paste.

36 eggs total in this cake!  I put 4 half sheet cakes together to make one huge double layer sheet cake.

Strawberry filling in between the layer... sealed in with my beautiful crumb coat layer... ;)

Covered in marbleized marshmallow fondant!  In hindsight I won't cover a cake this large with fondant again... I don't have the proper equipment to do so easily.  But thankfully the marbleized effect helped cover the two fondant pieces and it just looked more like water!

Iceberg made out of rice krispies as well.

I was very happy I had the opportunity to make this cake.  It pushed my creativity limit and I gained a lot of experience from it.

Happy 50th Reggie!  Hoped you enjoyed your surprise party!!

Peacock Cake!

Oh happy day!  I finally have a camera!  For Christmas my lovely hubby gave me a DSLR camera so that I can start taking awesome photos of my baking adventures.  (He's so sweet, I love him :-)  And guess what!  The USB cable finally came in the mail!  Back to blogging I go!
Anywho, my friend Christina asked if I could make her a gluten free Birthday cake and of course I said yes!  I asked her what some of her favorite things were and she said she liked peacocks, teal, and purple.  And then I remembered that I had pinned a peacock cake a while back on pinterest. (of course, where else would I get inspiration from!)  I based this cake design off of No Ordinary Cake's Peacock Cupcake.

Using my giant cupcake mold, I made a gf chocolate cake and filled it with a coconut filling and frosted with a very light buttercream.  Her family said it tasted like an almond joy!

First I baked a whole bunch of medium and small heart shaped sugar cookies and decorated them with royal icing.

I sculpted the neck and head out of rice krispies and covered it in fondant.  Oh and lesson learned-- do not frost molded rice krispy before applying fondant.  Twas not pretty!

check out the glitter dust!

The feathers are my favorite.  So much color and dimension!

brushed glitter onto sugar cookies as well.  what Birthday girl doesn't like sparkle?!

Happy Birthday Christina!  xoxo
